Rainy Day Activities
So, what do you do when you’re stuck inside on a rainy day? No doubt you have lots of ideas, and I’d love to hear them! Here is what we’re doing today:
1. We got out the video camera, and Isaac (age 8 ) videoed not only our BibleTelling story, but also the hymns we sang as part of our hymn study. Everyone was eager to ham it up for the camera!
2. I revealed to the children the terra cotta clay and the play doh that I had hidden. Luke (age 6) is creating something to be baked later, and Mike & Amelia are doing fun things with play doh. My rolling pin isn’t available for them to use, so I gave them each an aeresol can (with strict instructions NOT to take the lid off) to use as a roller.
3. Isaac decided to video tape himself doing the dishes. Later we’ll ask his dad to help him import this footage and Isaac will get to play around with editing movies on the computer.
4. Judah (age 1) was way too interested in the play doh project, and he wouldn’t leave those kids alone, so I put him in his high chair with a little pile of cornmeal. He’s having fun rolling things around in it and pushing it around with his fingers. When he decides to taste it, I don’t panic, because it’s just cornmeal! Judah is also strategically positioned near the play doh table so he can watch the activities there.
I don’t know what the rest of the day holds, but so far, no one has noticed that they can’t go outside and play. What do you have your kids do when it’s raining?

I think the most wonderful place to be on a rainy day is in the attic, where it is usually warm, the wood has a special smell, and you can hear the rain dropping on the roof. When I was growing up, that is where we kept our dolls, doll clothes, “dressing up” outfits and other fun things like color books and crayons.
When my children were young, we lived in houses that had attics 2 or 3 times, and I tried to re-create those wonderful memories for my children.
