Hey, Chickie!
Guess what!!! We have baby chicks!
We participated in the “Chick it Out” program available to schools in our area. I was amazed that the program extends its offer to homeschoolers too. Best of all, it doesn’t cost us anything but our efforts in turning the eggs three times a day and maintaining the right temperature.
Our first batch of eggs didn’t hatch, so I begged the director of the program to give us another chance. This time I wasn’t nearly as optimistic of the results, but I tried even harder to remember to do everything right.
Wonder of wonders! We actually have succeeded! Two chicks have hatched so far with more to come.
We’ll post photos as soon as we can!
**update, Sunday morning: We have five chicks so far! Another one is peeking out of it’s shell. The children are all amazed. We’ve had to break up a few squabbles outside of the incubator as people jockey for position to observe the miracle that has taken place in our very own house!
**update, Sunday night: Seven chicks hatched. Not bad! I’m anxious to post photos, etc., but I must go to bed for now!

Wow, that is so cool! Caleb H. is in 3rd grade, and some chicks hatched in his classroom this week, too. How fun!
