Seven Chicks
What an exciting day yesterday, full of wonder at our fluffy chicks. Each of the children was so anxious to hold the chicks, so we set up a little “chicken house” and finally got them moved into their new home. Now everyone can peer into the box, and little hands can reach in to feel and pet the chicks.
The chicks are so comical, doing things like bumping into each other, sleeping in the food bowl, and even just taking little drinks from their water supply. Each thing is cause for exclamation.

As soon as the nest box was set up in the kitchen, Isaac asked if he could sleep in there next to the chicks. We agreed, and I’m guessing we’ll need to let the next kid take their turn tonight.
Today promises to be a challenging one. Not only is it another rainy day (which normally wouldn’t bother me), but I will be trying to keep my own six children plus my sister’s two children occupied while more work is done on my kitchen renovation. Maybe I’ll go back and read my post about “rainy day activities” and see if I can pick up some tips.
Thanks for sharing in our joy and celebrating new life with us!
**Update: All the kiddos are here, but the chicks are terribly distracting. Not much other work happening here.
Here is a photo of Auntie Joyce helping Judah feel the chicks. Notice how she’s holding his palm so that he can’t squeeze the chickie but he can still feel it.

I’m so grateful for the ways that Joyce interacts with my children. It would never have occurred to me to help the baby hold a chick.

congrats on your new soft and fluffy friends!
however, i have one question……..
so 7 chicks hatched, right?
is this foreshadowing something christie?
does this mean YOU have to hatch kid #7, too?! haha.
that one little brainless chick is probably so sad walking around watching it’s brothers and sisters get all the love of the 6 lyons kids….haha.
see you tonight, lady!
love lizzy.

Um, no announcements about #7 quite yet! However, stay tuned!
No, that one chick who is left in the box is heaving a huge sigh of relief! No sticky fingers, no squeezing hands, no hot breath or wet lips kissing its head, and no little voice saying, “Hey look, Mama, it’s perching on my finger!”
Nope, that’s one relieved chick!
