Words of encouragement for homeschool moms

Saturday morning

September 30th, 2006 by Christie

This morning feels a little strange, because Michael and Isaac aren’t here. They are at a campout with other dads and boys from church, specifically those involved in the 4th-6th grade Wednesday “Rangers” group. I’m sure they’re having a fantastic time! I’m eager for them to tell me all about it. Hmmm. Maybe I shouldn’t get my hopes up. Since they are both of the male gender, I might not get much more out of them than a few grunts and some dirty laundry. :-) Read the rest of this entry »

What a week!

September 24th, 2006 by Christie

Many times this past week I’ve wanted to post an update on my blog to let you know how the kitchen project is going.  But it’s been a killer week!!!  We’ve been working hard all day and getting to bed late.  I don’t really have time to write much now because we’re supposed to be getting ready for church.  :-)

The kitchen is almost completely drywalled, and most sections have their second coat of joint compound on.  We just need to finish sanding those areas smooth and then I can paint.  Once I get the paint on the wall the guys can install the cabinets.  I’m eager for each step to go more quickly, but I’m also grateful that things are happening.

Soon I’ll take a moment to post some photos.  Until then, have a blessed Sunday.

Progress!

September 18th, 2006 by Christie

My kitchen continues to take shape!!! Michael’s brother, Roy, and family are here for a visit, and Roy has been working hard on our kitchen project. Tonight when Michael got home from work, he jumped in and helped Roy. It was so neat for me to see the two brothers working together. Read the rest of this entry »

Kitchen progress

September 16th, 2006 by Christie

Nothing encourages us to get our house in order like having guests scheduled to arrive.  We’ve known for months that Michael’s brother and family would be visiting us mid-September, so it’s been a goal for us to see how much we can have done on our kitchen before they arrive.  They called and said they’d be here on Sunday night, so we’re more motivated than ever to get a few more things in place.  Michael has been finishing up wiring and plumbing, and now some drywall is going up.  I didn’t realize how much I’d grown accustomed to the dark studs for walls until they were suddenly covered by white drywall.

My sister, Joyce, is still faithfully working and helping Michael.  She’s so good at measuring and fitting drywall and thinking through the puzzles that constantly arise with our peculiar old house.

On that note, I’m going to close.  I hear a hammer tapping away in the kitchen and I’m curious to know what Michael’s doing now.

Friday and Saturday

September 9th, 2006 by Christie

My dad used to warn us that if we ever had a really exciting time doing something, we needed to prepare for our “after-high low”. In other words, what goes up must come down, and our moods are no exception. For years I rolled my eyes at his theory, but now I’ve come to embrace it. Sure enough, any time I have a great weekend or a great time out, I have to let myself back down to “normal” again. Well, if that theory holds true, I’m going to have a lousy Monday. :-) Read the rest of this entry »

Eavesdropping…

September 5th, 2006 by Christie

I just finished writing an e-mail to a friend, and then thought that maybe you’d want to “read over my shoulder” as my children are so fond of doing. Read the rest of this entry »
