Progress!
My kitchen continues to take shape!!! Michael’s brother, Roy, and family are here for a visit, and Roy has been working hard on our kitchen project. Tonight when Michael got home from work, he jumped in and helped Roy. It was so neat for me to see the two brothers working together.
All afternoon Roy worked and he let Isaac be his helper. Isaac was in his element. He measured and cut and hammered and hurried back and forth doing anything he could do to help. I could hear Roy explaining things to him as they went along.
Tonight the kitchen looks much different than it did this morning. And all in all the kitchen looks drastically different than it did just a few days ago. I’m grateful to God for the encouragement in this area.
Some of the side effects of great progress might actually seem like steps backwards. But I thought it was fun to make spaghetti sauce on the grill, since my oven is unhooked and in transition. The fun ended when I couldn’t get the corn to cook properly in the saucepan on the grill. I picked up my pot and marched over to Todd’s house across the street and let it finish where every good pot likes to be: on a stovetop! Meanwhile, my sturdy cast-iron workhorse was still simmering on the grill with yummy sauce dripping over the side. Supper was served “on the grounds” tonight. We put a table in the front yard and everyone sat around it out there. The weather was gorgeous, the food was delicious, and the company was superb. Once my kitchen is all finished, I’ll look back fondly at our year or so of “roughing it”. We’ve had quite a few adventures!
