First Haircut
Yesterday it was time to take Judah to get his curls tamed. The curls had gone from being beautiful to just being frizzy and in the way. I asked Laura to be my photographer, and Isaac asked if he could take a camera and take photos too.
We were quite the sight in the salon, with two kids snapping away, a baby crying, a hairdresser working quickly and a mother bossing everyone. Usually I just buzz the boys’ heads when it’s time for a first haircut. But this time I just wasn’t ready for ALL of the hair to be gone, so I asked for a few curls to be left behind. We were in and out of the salon so quickly, for which I was grateful, and Michael was shocked when we arrived back home so soon after we left. Unfortunately Judah did not really enjoy having his hair cut. He seemed puzzled and distracted by all the camera flashes, but he still wasn’t happy.

I remember Isaac’s first haircut. He howled and screamed through the whole thing. Luke, on the other hand, was completely stoic for his first haircut. He was so calm about it that my sister was able to make some fun designs in his hair and we all roared with laughter at his new look. Of course, she made him look more serious by the time she was done. Mike’s first hair cut was a shock, since I just cut all the curls off with the shortest setting on the buzzer. Now Judah has his own story of going to the salon and getting to keep some of his curls.
When we got home from the salon, I jumped right into helping with the kitchen. Yesterday I was able to prime and paint another BIG section of wall. What a great feeling to see several more areas looking so beautiful. Today I need to work on cleaning and organizing in the kitchen before our next work time. It’s getting hard to find things in there!
Last night Michael was able to get a few more things done, including putting up another cabinet. You can see Judah in these photos modeling not only his new haircut, but also our nice cabinets.
Our weather has turned cold and crisp, so we’re wearing long sleeves and shoes. Yes, Mom, I see that Judah does not have his shoes OR socks on in this photo, and as soon as I’m done typing in this note, and then getting Amelia some new bandaids on her hurt ankle, I’ll hunt down some footwear for the baby.
One pair of his shoes has gas on them from the time he tipped over the gas can and walked in it. The other pair is missing one. I will have to dig around to find it. Yet another pair is in hiding altogether. Maybe it will surface before I look too hard for the other one.
Today Michael hopes to get home from work early, and I have high hopes of making more progress on our kitchen. More cabinets? A microwave? Who knows! Stay tuned. ![]()
