A few more reasons…
Here are a few more reasons why I love homeschooling!
Last week my brother called last-minute and said he was going on a day-trip to St. Louis, and he was looking for a travelling companion. I immediately thought of Isaac, and the trip was arranged. As it turned out, they didn’t get home until after midnight! But instead of getting all stressed out about how late Isaac was out, I could just relax and smile about what a great time Isaac had with his Uncle Dave. I would let Isaac sleep in the next morning, and I would enjoy hearing snippets about his trip as he remembered them. Just imagine how disruptive a day like that would be if Isaac had to be up and at school first thing in the morning!
A few days later Laura needed to take some allergy medication to combat a strange reaction causing a rash on her face. This medication would make her sleepy, but that’s ok. We adjusted our expectations of her and allowed her to just be sleepy. No worries about a teacher or classroom or missed lessons.
One more example…
For the past few weeks Little Miguel has been especially fond of following me everywhere I go. He will sit next to me on the couch while I take a rest. He’ll hover nearby while I’m sorting laundry. He’ll stand next to me while I’m doing stuff in the kitchen. Anywhere I go, Mike follows. If I’m running a quick errand, he wants to go. Why is this significant? Well, if I were sending kids off to school or working outside the home, Mike would not be able to soak up whatever it is that he needs from me right now. My little guy would be following someone else around, getting his needs met by someone else, and getting his affirmation from someone else. As much as I sometimes crave alone time, I have to admit that it’s not really so bad to have a cheerful little guy following me around like a puppy.
So, why do you like homeschooling? What are the things about your day that make you smile and sigh happily?

What do I like about homeschooling? That you are doing it for my children!

I remember fondly that Michael was the one of my children that liked to hang around me when he was older than the others. When he was sick he wanted to sleep on the couch and not in his bedroom. Never a lot of words from him but he seemed to want to be close by.
