Words of encouragement for homeschool moms

The Runaround

April 3rd, 2007 by Christie

Tonight I’m quite tired after a day full of lots of little things that all add up to one long day.

I’m tickled pink with Judah’s progress on potty training. I haven’t kept records on the other kids, but I’m wondering if maybe Judah is the best student I’ve ever had. He keeps surprising me by asking to go potty, and then actually doing something while he’s on the potty. I think the other kids had to be reminded a lot more, and there were more accidents in the first few days following the training.

Still, Judah is his usual obstinate, sneaky, stubborn self. I caught him today playing with the sugar bowl, pinching pieces of cookie out of the bag on the counter, opening the fridge to check for goodies, and feeding the dog the bread that I gave to him to eat. I just finished writing an e-mail to my friend, Janie, and I thought you might enjoy reading a paragraph of it.

Judah was giving me quite the workout today. He would do what he was
supposed to do on the toilet, but then he’d avoid me while I was
trying to help him get his undies on, then once the pants were on he’d
declare he had to pee again, and then instead of sitting on the pot he
would just stand there and look goofy, and then when I said he just
needed to get his pants on he would again declare that he needed to
pee, etc. I felt that it was some grand game that only one of us was
enjoying. Once I had to chase outside after him with his undies and
jeans because he was out there on the trampoline with only a t-shirt
and his Robeez shoes on. The older kids just giggled at him, and I
hoped the neighbors wouldn’t call the child welfare folks on me.

So you can see that Judah hasn’t lost any of his spunk with his new level of independence and training.

In other news…

Tonight the weather will change from highs in the 70’s to highs in the 40’s. There will be lows in the 20’s which means that certain things might freeze. Our area tends to not get as frozen as other parts of town, so I’m not going to cover anything. But it might do some damage to such things as “Miss Pam’s magnolia tree”, or other buds and blossoms in our yard. I cut all the tulips that were in full bloom, and left the ones that were still pretty tightly closed. The bright yellow and red tulips look so festive and homey on my dining table. Life is good.
