Unexpected Reunion

April 22nd, 2007 by Christie

Yesterday was such a nice relaxing beautiful day. I started my day at Kelly’s having coffee and a roll with my sister. Then I came home and did some more yard work. After that, I made pancakes for lunch, and then several of us took a long nap. After naptime we loaded up and headed to my grandmother’s place to do some garden work for her. She needed some flower pots readied and some mulch spread, and all of us really enjoyed doing those outdoor “favors” for her.
Family Reunion

Toward the end of our work at my grandmother’s, I received a phone call from Michael’s cousin, Corrinna, from North Dakota! She and her husband, Neil, were in town visiting Neil’s sister, and they wanted to say “hey” to us before leaving town. We quickly arranged to meet for supper at our favorite Chinese place, Hot Wok, and then we called Roy & Mary and Todd to see if they wanted to join in the mini-reunion. Amazingly, all of us were able to drop what we were doing and go to supper.

Family photoWe enjoyed the company, we enjoyed the food, the kids behaved, and family memories were recounted. I am so tickled to have made contact with this part of Michael’s family. Corrinna is the oldest daughter of Ronnie Lyons, who is Michael’s dad’s twin brother. Michael’s dad died when Luke was a baby, so Ronnie is the closest thing our kids have to a grandpa on that side of the family. The fact that Ronnie looks EXACTLY like Donnie makes it quite easy to imagine. Today Michael brought up the idea of making a trip out to North Dakota to visit Ronnie. I think it’s a good idea.
