Words of encouragement for homeschool moms

Glow in the Dark

September 14th, 2007 by Christie

Tonight we held our second annual glow-in-the-dark autumn birthday party. We stretched the birthday dates all the way back to July since we hadn’t celebrated any of them, and besides, it was a good excuse to have more fun. So the guests of honor were David’s Katie, my mother, Joyce, Josiah, Nathan, Laura and Amelia. (We wanted to include Aunt Pat, but she wasn’t able to attend. Guess I’ll eat the chocolate we got for her. :-) We provided the party location and the glow-in-the-dark supplies, while Joyce brought the cake and ice cream. Other folks brought beverages and munchies to share. The party was loud and a bit chaotic, but everyone found their niche and seemed to enjoy themselves. Thanks to the very chilly weather, the kids did more of their playing in the basement than outside. Still, that was a great location for all the glowing and flashing goodies. All in all, everyone is thoroughly celebrated. I don’t know when our next family party will be. Somehow we manage to skip a few birthdays every year, Steve’s being one of them. Somehow we need to fit him into the schedule. There isn’t anyone else with a January birthday though! Maybe next year we can have a winter party, since our next baby will be a December baby. That will give us two reasons to party in December-January.

Christie, Just a reminder that you are not the only selfish person in the world. :) Now I know you know that, cause you live with a few :),… but all moms have found themselves exactly where you were when you wrote this, and I’m sure on that list!
Thank you for the reminder that it takes God’s grace for me to even see that I need to surrender all to Him and that truly, ALL to Him I owe. Dying to myself is not an easy task.. as you said, it’s hard for selfish folks to surrender. May the LORD bless you with many joy-filled times when you find yourself surrendering cheerfully and may He gently guide you, as He often does me, back to that surrender when you stray and find yourself whining. :)
I wish we could go to Kelly’s for coffee and “catch up” in person! But I’m very glad for blogs and email! :) Oh, and by the way, Michael is so wise! :) He did just what you needed… encouraged, listened, did all that some more, offered insights and even better… time away just for you! What a wise husband you have! You are blessed.. and by the way… So is he! Love you, Mary

If we get together for New Year’s Eve, we could celebrate December/January birthdays then! :)
