Bird Photos

September 15th, 2007 by Christie

At long last, here are some photos of the birds in the house. My camera finally surfaced, so now we get to experiment with capturing birds on film… or with pixels, or however they’re captured these days.

Even though I’ve never kept birds before (other than chickens years ago), these creatures have captured my attention. They are fascinating.

Here are the two green-cheeked conures…

BamBam (Cuddles) and Jack Sparrow.

This one is “Jack Sparrow”, and he’s Isaac’s bird. Jack is more talkative than the other birds so far, and he can also be a bit more precocious.

These two conures are about 20 years old, so we are told. They came from a home where they were loved, but their owner has been forced to find new homes for her birds since she has a terminal illness. We adopted these birds from Wings of Wonder Avian Rescue in Mahomet, IL.

This little guy is still getting his name figured out. His original name was “BamBam”, but Amelia decided to rename him. He has been Huckleberry Pie, Fluffy and Cuddles so far.

Since the rest of us can’t keep us with his name changes, he is just BamBam to us.

Even though these two birds look almost identical, we can tell them apart since BamBam has some black feathers on his shoulders. Also, his beautiful long maroon tail feathers have been bent to one side ever since Amelia wrapped this little guy in a towel to cuddle him and keep him warm. He doesn’t seem to mind, and now Amelia is more careful about how she holds her bird.

And here we have Tangle, the first bird in the house who was the inspiration to go ahead and let a few other kids get birds for themselves.

Tangle came from a local breeder. He will be a year old in January. Tangle is a male grey cockatiel, and he’s a really fun little guy.

So there you have our bird population so far. Luke is still waiting for just the right bird to show up to be his special pet. It will be big news when that happens!
