Kitchen update

June 20th, 2006 by Christie

Here is an e-mail I wrote tonight regarding our kitchen.  I thought you might enjoy “eavesdropping” just a little…

I wanted to give you a progress report on our kitchen project, since you’ve invested in the work here.

Yesterday Joyce & Michael worked to remove the two windows (leaving alone the one that will end up in the downstairs bathroom) in the kitchen.  The front kitchen window will be replaced with a half-size window that will be above the sink, and the side kitchen window will be blocked off with a spot for an air conditioner to stick through the wall.  The work yesterday was two-fold:  1.  shop for materials (thanks to you!).  2.  remove old windows & casements around them.

Michael did the shopping, spending about $250.  He brought home a replacement window and all the lumber needed for this stage of the construction.  Then, he and Joyce and I worked on removing the windows.  It was a big job, and we have a pile on the curb to prove we made progress.  The workers intended to quit at 9 pm, but they didn’t finish until about 10 pm.  They started framing in the new structure for the new window.  Before we went to bed, we brought all the lumber and plywood inside to the kitchen so it wouldn’t be damaged by the moisture outside.

Tonight  (Tuesday) Joyce and Michael worked hard to build the frame for the new window.  I took all the kids, except Isaac, to gymnastics.  While I was out, I stopped at Lowes to get a few things Michael needed, including a new flashlight and some boxes of nails.  Another $50 expenditure.  :-)  Joyce and Michael were able to work hard and make much progress since I had the little children with me.  When I got home, they were almost ready to set the new window in its place.  After some tweaking and leveling, it was finally caulked and pushed in place.  Michael nailed it in, and that was the end of the work for tonight!

Joyce plans to come back tomorrow night.  I don’t know what is next on the agenda, but I think it’s to work on the window that will be boarded up and the air conditioner slot for that same area.

Thank you again for your investment in us.  I hope we’ll make you proud!  I think you’ll be pleased with how much we are able to accomplish with your $1000 gift.

I hope you have a restful night!

Love,
Christie

God’s provision

April 12th, 2006 by Christie

The other day, in the middle of a very ordinary day, I was struck with how God provides for us way ahead of time before we even know we’re going to need something. Oh yes, we all KNOW that, but do we really? Read the rest of this entry »
